In order to check in to the dormitories, each student will need to provide a photo ID (Driver's License, School ID, State ID or passport are acceptable).
University Center is an independent contractor and is not part of the Ballet Chicago organization. Students who choose to stay in the dormitories are required to follow the rules in accordance with University Center and the additional regulations for curfew and dorm behavior set by Ballet Chicago. These rules and regulations have been established in order to promote the best physical well-being for the professional training the students are receiving.
CHAPERONE SYSTEM
University Center Dorms:
All students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone within all areas of the University Center. This rule is a mandatory requirement of the University Center. There is one chaperone for every 15 students. Residents over the age of 18 must not leave the building floor without notifying a chaperone and must obey curfew. Residents must not leave the building after curfew.
Studios and Activities:
In order to more effectively supervise our students, the School of Ballet Chicago has developed the following system to monitor students’ travels and activities. All students, regardless of chaperone level are escorted by a chaperone within the University Center. For travel outside of the University Center, including outings and field trips, Ballet Chicago has implemented the following system:
UNCHAPERONED: The student may travel to and from any area outside the studio or dormitories on their own, without supervision.
BUDDY SYSTEM: The student may travel to and from any area outside the studio or dormitories as long as they are with ONE other person.**
GROUP: The student may travel to and from any area outside the studio or dormitories as long as they are in a GROUP OF 4 (3 other people and themselves).**
CHAPERONED: The student MAY NOT travel to and from any area outside the studio or dormitories unless they are with a Chaperone, Resident Advisor or Designated Adult (i.e. parent or relative).
Ballet Chicago issues an identification card to all housed or commuter students. The card is used to identify the student's chaperone level. The University Center issues a key card/photo ID to each student. The card is used to allow admittance into the University Center dorms. The Ballet Chicago identification card and the University Center issued key card/photo ID must be kept on all students at all times.
Please read and discuss the options listed above with your child. It is imperative that all parties understand the student-chaperone system and adhere to it.
A $20.00 fee will be charged to the student if the chaperone level is changed. Please decide carefully when choosing the appropriate level for your child. Students will also be charged a $20 fee for replacing a lost card.
**Please note: The term “person/people” can refer to another student, relative, etc. It does not refer to a Chaperone, Resident Advisor or Ballet Chicago Staff member.
Ballet Chicago reserves the right to contact parents for pre-approval of any activities and reserves the right to refuse permission to students to leave the dormitory for any reason whatsoever if it concludes that it is in the best interest of the student. However, Ballet Chicago has no obligation to draw such conclusions. We reserve the right to final judgment with regard to any activity or event in which your son or daughter wishes to engage
