Max Marshall is a Chicago native and spent his youth studying both classical and jazz piano. He holds degrees from Denison University in Ohio and a Master's degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to joining Ballet Chicago, he spent several years working in the New York jazz world as well as seven years performing worldwide as a pianist for Celebrity Cruises, Holland America and Norwegian Cruises. He has performed several Broadway shows, including Wicked! A New Musical, A Chorus Line, Havana!, and most recently, Jersey Boys. Marshall's classical teachers have included Nelson Harper, Emilio Del Rosario and Yulia Lipmanovich, and he has studied jazz piano with Tim Davis, Luke Gillespie, Michael Weiss, and the late Frank Kimbrough. His preferred repertoire includes Chopin, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Messiaen, and the Great American Songbook. When not working on music, Max enjoys running, cooking, and is a passionate film connoisseur.
