IN MEMORIAM - CARLENE JONES
Former President Ballet Chicago's Board of Directors
Carie’s love of dancing began when she was a child and continued throughout her life, beginning with ballet classes in her basement for her neighbors and culminating in her position as President of the Board of Directors for Ballet Chicago. Carie was passionate about Ballet Chicago, its mission, and its work in the community, and she supported the company throughout her life. During her tenure as President, she gathered strong community connections around the organization, exhibited outstanding organizational leadership and fundraising acumen, and was instrumental in helping lead Ballet Chicago in new strategic directions.
“All of us at Ballet Chicago knew Carie as an extraordinary person with a calm and graceful demeanor who embraced life with a bright and positive outlook. Carie helped shepherd us through the opening of our School, which has grown amazingly. She would be so proud to see how the organization has thrived,” said Founders and Artistic Directors Daniel Duell and Patricia Blair.
Ballet Chicago dedicated its entire 2015/16 season in memory of Carie including its November 2015 DanceVision - New Choreography performances at the Chicago Cultural Center, its December 2015 ten-performance Nutcracker season at the Athenaeum Theatre, and its May 2016 “Take Flight” performances at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
To her husband John and to Carie’s family, we offer our sincerest condolences. In observance of Carie’s wishes, please direct donations to Development Associate, Megan Sindelar at msindelar@balletchicago.org, or call Ballet Chicago at 312-251-8838.
